So, tomorrow I start week 3 of my running program.  I am actually liking this.  I have found much joy in going to the gym and running…WHOA what???  What did I just say?  Let me reread that

(one sec here…pause)…

Ok had to double check and see if I typed that right and I did.  Yep it’s true.  Wow, never thought I’d say that.  In the past (a million years ago) when I ran I liked it.  But it’s been awhile (10+years) and I just couldn’t get back into it and enjoy it.  It was so stinken hard.  But this program has been really great at easing me back into running and building me up slowly–so right now I’m doing a combo of walk/running.  But this week is my first week where I’ll be running the same amount of time as walking.  The last two weeks I walked just a little more than run (not counting the 5 minute warm up walk).

But it’s also been a huge stress reliever.  I went to the gym 5 days this past week and each day I so needed it.  I would arrive at the gym uptight and irratable and come home energized.  I felt like I could feel the stress float away the moment I started.

What’s weird is 2 months ago I had started working out but not running and I did not have this experience.  Me no likey gym.  But this time it’s different.  It’s just been fun, plain and simple.   I will say even though this recent experience has been good, I’ve still struggled a little bit.  The struggle has been one of feeling out of place.  I’m thankful that at this gym there are many pudgy people like me that go there and work out but I still feel self conscious when I walk in.

I’m not in cute work out clothes.  I wear the same work out pants every time because that’s all I have.  My face is beet red when I’m finished and sweat is pouring off me.  I’m alternating with running and walking so I feel so weak compared to those who go in their and run the whole time.  But I’ve forced myself to do it anyways.  It’s also helped to have my little iPod shuffle.  I turn the music on and go into my own little world.  I really couldn’t do it without it.

I think my husband is in shock.  He’s delighted and he’s been very encouraging.  I know he’s wondering what’s up, but heck if I know.  It just feels good.

Anyway I’m excited because tomorrow is a new adjustment to my routine and I am anxious to see how my body does.

More Rotten Grass… June 29, 2008

It’s Saturday night and I’m thinking, “My peeps need an update…”  Ha ha.  Just kidding.  I’m home alone right now as Jake and the kids went on a bike ride.  Me’s no have a bike so I’m at home.  Which honestly is OK with me right now.  Soon I’ll get a bike but I’m OK without one right now.

So today Jake emptied out a yard debris container that was full of grass shavings…and maybe more I don’t know…but it hasn’t been emptied for many moons.  Jake said it plopped out like one big blob of sludge…and it STUNK really bad.  It stunk so bad that my son, who was in the back yard, (Jake was on the other side of the house, yelled, “What’s that smell???”)

{Whoa just had a flash back of last week and the pool stinkage incident.  Which is better now by the way}…

Ok so Jake saw a family of four walking down the road nearing our pile of what was once grass shavings but is now compost and he high tailed it in the garage and hid.  Now the pile is drying out in the back yard (and stinking it up) so that he won’t be so embarrassed when he takes it to the dump.

But that’s not all folks!  Later on in the day our dog must’ve thought he died and gone to heaven because apparently he like the taste of compost.  If our dog dies soon you all know why.  We stopped him of course but who knows how much he ate.  He got into it once more and got a whippin!

What’s with our back yard, stinkage, and rotten grass?

Anybody that knows my husband wouldn’t be surprised if I told them he brought home “No Sugar Added” ice cream.  Normally it’s just low fat ice cream but he must’ve felt pudgy last night so it was the no sugar kind. So last night he bought some and him and the kids had some.  No biggie…

So then today I dished me up some…I should’ve known bad things were gunna happen when on my last bite instead of savoring the last lick on the spoon and contemplating scooping out some more… I grimaced and said “YUCK”.  A conclusion, mind you, I came to mid way through the bowl of ice cream but did I stop then.  Heck no, I’m no quitter.

Pain, gurgling, (use your imagination)…. has been my friend ever since…

Friends don’t let friends eat “No Sugar Added” ice cream….

Just say no to “No Sugar Added” ice cream….

I have my iPod on and I can still hear my stomach and it won’t stop…it’s like the ice cream gave birth to a little gremlin inside my guts.

Somebody help me… (burp)

Jake is my husband.  He says I’m taking over his computer.  Well that’s because my son has taken over mine to play Club Penguin.  So yah my husband is going to run a 5K with me.  He doesn’t need to train that’s because he’s already in shape.  Somehow he married me.  We are complete opposites.

He’s in shape I’m not.  He’s a clean freak, I’m messy.  He’s organized (in theory) and I am too… I know where everything is on those piles of paper on my desk.  Yes, there’s a desk under those piles.  He values clothes put away in drawers.  I’m happy just to get them washed.  He’s a hard worker, I’m a hardly worker.  He’s OCD, I’m NOT.  He’s a morning person I’m a night person.

He’s shorter than me.  He’s lighter than me.  He’s “perfect dad” and “perfect husband” and I well I give my kids cookies for breakfast and my husband is really good at ironing… He’s always right but don’t tell him I said that because I won’t.  He’s humble–He apologizes when he’s wrong I just be quiet.  He’s funny and makes people laugh.  When I tell jokes people give me a courtesy laugh.  He’s a good story teller and I put people to sleep…

But we do OK… in fact we do great.  We’re a great balance, I’d say.

Fly On The Wall…And Other Little Details… June 23, 2008

This post will give you a look into my life as if you were a fly on the wall…

This morning (shh don’t tell anyone) for breakfast I had 2 chocolate chip cookies and 3 cups of coffee with Irish Cream creamer.  This morning (shh really don’t tell anyone this either) I let my son have a chocolate chip cookie with his breakfast.

It’s past noon and I’m still in my PJ’s…

Entry from Journal this morning…

By the way face is recovering from Monster Zit.  And as I took joy in that I discovered Mt. Coldsore developing.  Went into mini-depression — involved cookies, and chips and salsa.  No food’s not an idol in my life, why do you ask?

The mini depression was last night.  Was feeling so darn beautiful.  Today I’m better though.  I’ve embraced the cold sore and even thanked God for it.  Me and cold sore are buddies now.

Oh so in all seriousness here’s 2 things going on in our world…

1)  We re-arranged our living room.  The TV is out!!  Love it so much better now.  Now it’s very inviting for visiting and communication, entertaining that type of thing.

2)  Thanks to my friend Allison and her inspiration I am training for a 5K…which is only 3 miles but let’s just focus on the 5K…sounds way cooler.  I found a great running plan on www.coolrunning.com.  It’s called the “Couch-to-5K Running Plan”.  Perfect for someone like me.  I’m start week 2 today.  So far, so fun!

So yah the days of swimming in the new little pool in our back yard are over.  We had that freak 90 degree day in May and no good swimming weather since, so the nice blue water turned green.  But that’s not the only thing.  The top part of the tube won’t stay inflated because the air cap is missing.  We tried all mighty duct tape but it let us down.   Without the top tubey part the whole pool will collapse with even just a little commotion in the water.  So we figgered we drain it.

So we let the water out of it not thinking much about it.  When there were just a few inches left we *lifted* the pool up off the dead, stinky, rotten, who-knows-what-died-under-there  grass.  As my big buff husband heaved and ho’ed the deflated pool off the ground all of our faces suddenly contorted into ungodly shapes and our dog tucked tailed ran away whimpering as the invisible fumes penetrated our nasal cavaties singeing our nose hairs as they went.  ”What in the world is that STINK?!”

To our best guess it’s the smell of rotten grass.  We don’t know but it’s been 2 days and our backyard still reeks of the odor.  We have a 12 foot diameter circle of dead grass in our back yard.  The birds really like it though.  I watched them today picking and plucking out who knows what.  I don’t know if our dog has ventured out into the wet stinky unknown and went potty since this occured.  If his bad gas is any indicator I’d say no.

My husband said it best today when he said, “I don’t know about you but I’m thinking we get a trampoline.” I’m thinking no back yard barbeque’s anytime soon.

What a Day… June 11, 2008

Yo Homies,

Today was spent battling and being whipped by allergies.  But I finally got the upper hand about 6 or so.  A day of allergies is very tiring.  I’m hitting the hay soon.

I’m thinking I need to move to the desert.

In other news, I tried to get that slide show uploaded to youtube and I couldn’t figure it out.  Jake’s got a Mac and I’m not to Mac savvy yet.  So I’m working on it.  I’m not a Mac lover yet.  Jake is though.  Not I.

My face hurts.

Can we all just say together on 3 “We love cold weather and rain in June!”??  OK, 1….2….3

“WE LOVE COLD WEATHER AND RAIN IN JUNE!!!”

Or we could just say “We’re Oregonians!!”  The truth is we are Oregonians, and yes we get lots of rain, and yes we get used to it but we DON’T love cold weather and rain in June!!  By June we’re ready to see the blue sky, by June we’re ready to put on our flip flops and tanks, wear our cute capris and short shorts (uh…well some of us) but instead today I wore black sweats and a hoodie.  And I was cold many times.  It’s enough to make me growl like bear.  GRRRRRR!!!!

So..since I spent all day sneezing and itching and sleeping I don’t have much to say.

Until next time — word to yo mama!

Their first time on an airplane. So this is just a pic at the airport before we left.  there are many more of these pics I could share…but I’ll get to the good stuff.  Like the adorable couple below…

On the Shuttle...we’re actually on the bus to Disneyland in this picture.  Quick!  Strike a pose.  I posted this since it was our anniversary this day.  Happy Anniversary Jake and Kelli.

So this is the jungle ride.  This was one of Kenna’s favorites.  We went on it twice.  The line was usually pretty short.  I was going through day one pics and there aren’t many good ones.  Just individual ones.  We have a few videos that I’ll try and post on here or youtube.  Which there are 3 on youtube right now.  Just search for “whisfam”at youtube and there are 3 of them.  Make sure to have your sound up though.  They are our best videos but the one of me on the Screaming California ride makes me laugh.  That thing takes off FAST.  I’ll post one or two more pics.

Great pic.  This one was irritating  Ha ha.

So that’s all.  Sorry that was sort of not very exciting.  I’ll try to post the funny video on youtube soon.  The one of us at Goofy’s Kitchen.

~whisfam4 signing off.

We’re Back!! June 5, 2008

Yes we are back to beautiful, green, fresh water Oregon.  We had FUN!!  Obviously I didn’t post any pics.  Here’s why.  The second night I sat down and thought I’d be clever and post some videos on youtube and pics on Flickr.  After an hour of downloading, uploading and accidental deletions my anger level elevated to a place that is not allowed on a vacation of any kind…so I said, “No more computer for this trip!!” and so I stuck to it!

So my goal is to get a few pics up on this blog as the week goes on.  They’re on Jake’s computer right now so it’ll have to wait.  But I’ll just say a few words about it.  It was, I’ll say it again, FUN!  We found out that our kids like roller coasters but Kenna really does not scary stuff (like Pirates of the Carribean or the Haunted Mansion).  They both loved Star Tours and Space Mountain.  My seven year old went on the huge upside down roller coaster in California twice.  My 5 year-old would yell “Again! Again!” after all the roller coasters she went on.   The roller coasters were FUN!

They loved the live show of Playhouse Disney.  We all loved “Soarin’ over California” which really makes you feel like you’re flying.  We loved Goofy’s Kitchen and Ariel’s Grotto.  There was also a Jedi training thing where they picked kids out of the audience to learn to fight like Jedi’s.  Caed didn’t get picked BUT we got to watch up close all the little kids fight Darth Vader and Darth Maul (sp??) and refuse to switch to the dark side.  That was FUN!

We had fun eating dinner at Ariel’s Grotto, Goofy’s Kitchen and Rainforest Cafe.  The weather was perfect in the upper seventies the whole time.  We only got mildly burned, except my scalp got a good baking–but I got a Mickey Mouse hat out of it.  :)

We saw all the parades and the fireworks.  We met Ariel, Snow White, Princess Jasmine, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Alice, The Mad Hatter (we have a hilarious video of that meeting), Buzz Lightyear, Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and many others.  Meeting and getting pics with the characters was FUN!

It was so fun to get away, our little family of four, and experience this time together.  We had FUN!!!

Did I mention we had FUN!
